The Bauer Homestead
The Multi-Acre Connectivity Challenge

2026
The Challenge
The Bauer family moved into a sprawling, multi-level homestead nestled in the Novato hills. With a 4,000 sq. ft. main residence, a detached ADU, a kitted auto shop, and a livestock barn, the property faced a common rural hurdle: Scale! A standard ISP gateway or "off-the-shelf" mesh system simply couldn't penetrate the topography or the distance between structures. To provide property-wide WiFi and a robust surveillance sytem for their livestock and entry points, a residential-grade solution wasn't going to cut it.
The Solution
We bypassed the limitations of off-the-shelf mesh hardware (netgear, tplink, eero) by deploying a structured, hardwired backbone using Ubiquiti UniFi infrastructure. To connect the outbuildings without the massive expense of trenching new conduit, we utilized Ubiquiti AirMax wireless bridge radios. This created a high-speed, low-latency "invisible wire" between the shop, the barn, and the main house.
By physically hardwiring all access points, we ensured that the client’s full Comcast speeds actually reached the end-user—future-proofing the network for years to come.
The Transparent Result
The technical "magic" is a property where surveillance and high-speed data flow seamlessly from the main living spaces to the livestock barn. While retrofitting a finished home presents challenges, we prioritized a "clean-build" aesthetic—following architectural lines and hiding infrastructure within unconditioned spaces. The result is enterprise-grade reliability that stays out of sight, letting the family focus on their homestead, not their hardware.
